As a Registered Psychotherapist with the College of Registered Psychotherapists of Ontario (CRPO), a Certified Health and Wellness Coach and a Clinical Exercise Physiologist with the Canadian Society for Exercise Physiologists (CSEP) I have a deep appreciation for the interconnectedness of mental, physical and social well-being. I have two postgraduate degrees: a Master of Ars in Counselling Psychology and a Master of Adapted Physical Activity. When you begin your healing journey with me we take time to cultivate a treatment plan that honours your unique goals, circumstances, assets and challenges.
I take a holistic approach to psychotherapy that integrates all components of well-being relevant to each client. Therapy is conducted through a person-centred, integrative framework that incorporates evidence-based and trauma-informed treatment models like Polyvagal Theory, Schema Therapy, parts work (such as Internal Family Systems), Cognitive Behavioural Therapy and positive psychology. I am currently training in Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (EMDR) and am constantly increasing my professional toolbox to meet the needs of clients. I also integrate my expertise and professional certifications in health and wellness coaching and exercise sciences, when indicated, to help clients access the benefits of health-promoting lifestyle behaviours.
In addition to my work in mental health, I spent 8 years working with the Directorate of Fitness (DFit) Human Performance Research team with the Department of National Defence. I have experience with the military community through field work, research and as a military family member. I have a comprehensive understanding of the demands and challenges placed on service members and their families, as well as the impacts this lifestyle can have on mental and physical health. In addition, I have been involved with organizations that support people who have experienced sexual trauma.
I have also worked and studied in several countries across Asia, Africa, Europe and North America, including volunteering with the Jamaica Paraplegic Association and Paralympic team, with refugee organizations along the Thailand / Myanmar border, and studies in Ghana, Belgium and Ireland.
